St. Mary’s High School Ifitedunu was founded in 1962 through the communal efforts of several people and leaders under the guidance and direction of the Catholic Church in Ifitedunu (then Ifite-Ukpo) via Catholic Diocese of Onitsha. The school has, over the years, also been known as Dunu High School and Njikoka High School. It is now gone back to St. Mary’s High School, the original name. Ifitedunu is in Dunukofia Local Government area of Anambra State and is a rural and agrarian community in the former Eastern region of Nigeria. The high school was completely destroyed during the tragic Biafran-Nigeria Civil War (of 1967-1970), but was later rebuilt without adequate facilities and maintenance. The buildings are dilapidated and in urgent repair. However, the school continues to serve and transform lives by providing quality secondary school education and character formation to many young people studied in the school.
